For when life throws obstacles your way…

Ace Bandages

First off, I didn’t forget to put the rest of the pictures up from Atlanta. My hours increased at work so I haven’t really had the time to upload more yet.

Anyway, today two of my clients were rolling ace bandages at work (for something to do) since there wasn’t anything else for them to do. So when I got there, I found one of my clients rolling what looked to be a firehose. So I said, “Wow! It looks like you have a firehose there!” There were boxes of ace bandages that were tangled and unraveled, so the guys were rolling them and this particular bandage was clipped together with another one with those plastic ties that are on clothing tags. So it ended up to be a 196 yard ace bandage.

Here’s the result (you can sort of see other bandages on the floor right next to it:

Hotel Room Pictures

Ok so this wasn’t the first time that I’ve stayed in a hotel with rooms this big. As a matter of fact, I think my hotel room when I was at Hotel Sofitel in Rosemont (Chicago), Illinois last March/April was a little bit bigger. There wasn’t anything really special about it. I won’t caption these pictures only because they’re pretty self explainatory. The hotel itself was pretty nice and I would stay there again because it’s a couple of blocks from the mall and train station, so I wasn’t restricted to just hotel restaurant food.

Atlanta Pictures

Ok so I took some time earlier to go through my pictures that I took in Atlanta with my LG Chocolate phone. Some of them came out lousy, where others came out great!

I took off from JFK in NYC. That’s where the pictures will begin (of the plane itself). It’s been a long time since I’ve been on a large plane. I’m used to being on one of JetBlue’s planes, which are smaller than the 737s that Delta and other airlines fly (this one wasn’t a 737 though, unless it was just configured differently inside and they still call it a 737). Anyway, I flew Delta since JetBlue doesn’t go to Atlanta and the plane was uncomfortable. I was squashed against the seat in front of me and I’m only 5′5″! Imagine someone taller than me that would need to upgrade to first class just to be comfortable? The video screens also aren’t placed in the best spots either so neck and eye strain are a must and it’s possible that wherever you sit your screen is partly blocked by an exit sign (half of mine was cut off because of the exit sign) or the seat in front of you.

Here’s a picture of the wing. My window was screwed up beyond belief! It was filthy and scratched, so the picture quality isn’t the greatest because of that.

This is a picture of the Delta terminal at JFK.

This is behind my seat. The plane just seems to go on and on for miles.

This is another picture of the seats behind me.

On the plane

This is a picture of what’s in front of me. Notice that I’m right behind the window exits? This other picture is of my nonexistant leg room. It doesn’t look so bad but if you’re sitting there for two hours, it’s bad.

We did hit a little nasty air on the way down, which wasn’t that bad. If the plane was smaller, it would’ve been felt more with a lot more bouncing around. So the ride was smooth. However, when we were getting ready to land, it felt like we were on a rollercoaster going over little hills (the kids and people behind me acted as if they were on a rollercoaster too. Me? I was lingering between life and death because I was up at 5:30 am so it startled me badly and wasn’t the greatest feeling). It also seemed like we were going to on a building too or plow right into the roof anyway. Hence the up and down motion of the plane (freaking auto pilot, who needs it anyway?!). I made it on the ground safe and sound though.

More pictures to come in a separate post.

Home from Georgia

So I didn’t get delayed either going to Atlanta or coming back from Atlanta, which was really cool! But I’m back in one piece. I took tons of pictures from my hotel and the Martin Luther King Jr historic area. So once I download those and rotate some of them and have the time to do all of this, I’ll post them. Right now I’m sort of behind with my homework, so hopefully it’ll happen sometime next week. I’ll also post captions to go with the pictures.

The school part of it (ethics & diversity) wasn’t the most engaging topic but I learned quite a bit.

Last Quarter Before Internship

Ok so tomorrow officially starts my last two classes before I take the summer off and start my internship in October. I’m stressed more than ever though. I feel as if these last three weeks didn’t even happen and that I went from last quarter’s classes right to this quarter’s classes with no break. One of the problems is that this past Thursday I became more stressed. My client’s funding got cut back in January and we were just notified on Thursday afternoon. Let’s just say that it’s a good thing that my client went away for vacation yesterday and will return to work on the 17th. So we have until then to figure out what’s going on and for the state to answer questions as to why her funding got cut. My work schedule comng up is going to be absolutely crazy.

So back to the problem with class. Yesterday and today I started working on my homework. I’m just overwhelmed already with having to do research. Let’s just say that my favorite subject isn’t Physiological Psychology (aka Biological Basis of Behavior) either. I took this class when I was at UConn and I think it’s going to be easier and more understandable this time around. However, when I opened a research article to summarize and answer questions for discussion on unilateral neglect (when you can’t see/feel things on the left side of your body because of brain damage to a part of the brain on the right side), I couldn’t retain two words in one sentence! So I’m wondering how the hell I’ll be able to finish this assignment.

On a brighter note, I’m going to Atlanta from the 18th-24th, woohoo! A nice break from Connecticut, but that also means that I need to buy clothes that I can wear during class that’ll keep me warm but that I won’t have to change before going to dinner because it’s warmer outside than inside. This also means that I’ll be even more broke than I am now, even though I only have to pay for the room and dinner now.

Wish me luck!

Linking to Copyrighted Content

Ok so the topic came up of “if I hotlink to copyrighted content that’s hosted on another website, I won’t get sued because I’m not actually hosting that content.” Ok I’m no lawyer but I’m pretty sure that that’s not only dumb and the content is unoriginal but it’s also illegal. Not to mention, it’s common sense! Why would you pay for web hosting and host other people’s stuff? Unless it’s a site like Newgrounds.com where millions of flash videos and audio songs created by the authors themselves have uploaded their stuff for public view. It’s like ripping your cds to your computer and uploading it to your website, which is illegal and you’re bound to be caught by the RIAA. However, if you have permission to use the information on your website, it would be fine. Just put a copyright notice up and the link to the original site that the information came from. Just make your site original with content that you’ve created yourself and people will come. Just don’t be so naive that you think that you can’t be sued for hotlinking to copyrighted mainstream material.

WP Updated

Ok so I updated to the latest version of WP, which is 2.5 and I had no trouble with updating. If you encounter a problem, please post here so that I know and can figure out how to fix the problem. The only thing that’s really different is the dashboard, which I need to get used to. I’m also going to find out from Dreamhost why my site and mail server site is loading so slowly. So if anyone is experiencing slow load times, it’ll be fixed asap :)

New Theme

Ok so since I couldn’t get my shit together this month while I was off from class, I wasn’t able to sit here long enough to create my own theme. There were a couple that I liked but once I downloaded and installed this one, I decided to keep this one. It’s very frustrating to not have the time to do what you really want because you have to sit here and learn how.

Class results: I ended up with an A in Research Methods and a B in Clinical Interventions. I’m not so happy when I get Bs but I’m not spending $1800 to retake the classes that I get Bs in. I have mostly As anyway and my GPA didn’t change at all.

Work is going fine. My schedule starting next week for a week and a half is going to be really screwed up because my regular client will be away on vacation so I have two new clients to work with. It should be interesting!

Doomsday

Ok so tonight I went to see Doomsday with some people that I work with and some of our clients. I wasn’t quite expecting what was in the movie. I won’t go into it but we likened it as a cross between Mad Max, Robin Hood, Lord of the Rings and some other movies squished together into one movie. It was quite gorey. So if you like gore, go for it! I recommend seeing it at the movies though because it won’t have the same effect as watching it on tv.

Chocolate Covered Sunflower Seeds

Yummy! On Friday my Mom and I brought the cats to the vet for their annual check ups and one of the nurses was eating chocolate covered sunflower seeds. I’d never heard of them before then. Today, my Uncle’s girlfriend gave us all chocolate covered sunflower seeds. I’m thrilled! They’re really good and taste almost like chocolate covered almonds :D
